Tarot Archetypes Series 4: Inner Guidance and Transformation – The Hermit, The Wheel of Fortune, and Strength
These three cards of the Major Arcana teach us the importance of seeking wisdom in solitude, accepting the cycles of life, and mastering the use of our own internal power.
I. Archetype: IX – The Hermit
The Hermit represents withdrawal, introspection, and finding one’s own inner light. He is a sage who carries a lantern, seeking truth not in the external world, but within himself.
-
Life Lesson: Solitude and Wisdom. The Hermit teaches you that to find the right answers, you must step away from the noise of the world. This is the act of returning to your own center—much like the sacred hearth of Hestia—and sharing the wisdom found there with others.
-
Mystical Power: The ability to trust your internal guidance and access authentic knowledge before it becomes “popular.” He grants the power to follow the soul’s path with patience, without rushing.
II. Archetype: X – The Wheel of Fortune
The Wheel of Fortune represents cycles, destiny, luck, and cosmic timing. The wheel turns constantly; sometimes we are at the top, sometimes at the bottom.
-
Life Lesson: Change and Acceptance. This card teaches that life has an uncontrollable flow and that no period—good or bad—lasts forever. It reminds you that karmic lessons and major life cycles flow toward you, yet you possess the power to choose where you stand within that cycle.
-
Mystical Power: Understanding Timing. The intuitive ability to know when to act (when the Wheel is up) and when to wait patiently (when the Wheel is down). It allows for alignment with the rhythm of the Universe.
III. Archetype: XI – Strength
The Strength card represents inner fortitude, courage, and the taming of passion through love. A woman (Divine Feminine power) gently closes the mouth of a lion (primal power).
-
Life Lesson: Control with Grace. Strength is not physical force or coercion; it is spiritual and emotional resilience. It teaches you to approach even your wildest emotions (fear, anger) with love and compassion. True courage is not about suppressing the animal nature within, but transforming it.
-
Mystical Power: Energy Transformation. The ability to turn anger into determination and fear into action. This is the power to manage your life with a gentle yet firm will.
These three cards illustrate the journey of withdrawing from the outer world, accepting destiny, and making peace with our inner nature.
In our next article, shall we continue our journey with The Hanged Man (XII), Death (XIII), and Temperance (XIV)—the stages representing the soul’s total surrender, ultimate transformation, and purification?
