Is There Play in Daily Lifeı
Do You Play in Your Daily Lifeı What Says “Playtime” to Youı
Of course there is, but for a person who has dedicated their life to a craft a true master play is not like what you see on a playground. Our play is woven into the work itself. When your hand is seasoned with the hammer, the pen, or the steering wheel, that work stops being a burden and turns into a dance. Playing a lighthearted prank on an apprentice, tossing a witty remark to a customer, or tackling a difficult task with a smile, saying, “Let’s see how we conquer this one today…” That is my daily play. It’s about adding a pinch of joy to life without breaking its gravity.
ıWhat Says “Playtime” to Meı
When these three things happen, a master knows the hour of play has arrived:
- ıWhen the Craft Begins to Flow: When you step up to your workbench and forget time, space, and your worries; when your hand starts to sing like a nightingale independent of you—that is playtime. In those moments, fatigue cannot touch a man.
- ıThe Spark in the Eyes: When I tell a story or show someone the “trick of the trade” and see a light turn on in their eyes, that conversation turns into a game. A sweet rivalry, a dance of ideas begins.
- ıThe Late Afternoon Tea: When the quitting bell is about to ring and that deep-steeped tea is poured into the glass… as a peace mixed with tiredness settles in. That is the moment to poke fun at the chaos of the world. Being able to say, “The sun has set once more and we are still standing”—that is the finest game we play with life.
ıIn short, my friend, life is but a stage, and we are actors trying to perform our roles with dignity. The important thing is to be able to say, “We played well today,” when the curtains close in the evening.
ıNow tell me, how are things at your “workbench”ı How is your game with life goingı
