Tarot Archetypes Series 3: Choice, Willpower, and Balance – The Lovers, The Chariot, and Justice
These cards of the Major Arcana represent the lessons of resolving internal and external conflicts, making essential life choices, and facing the karmic consequences of our actions. This is the stage where the soul fully assumes its own power and responsibility.
I. Archetype: VI – The Lovers
Contrary to its name, The Lovers card represents more than just romantic love; it embodies life’s fundamental dilemmas and the conscious choices we make. It is the act of standing at a crossroads and choosing the path that aligns with your heart.
-
Life Lesson: Choice and Harmony. This card teaches you to align all your values—spiritual, ethical, and emotional. True love is not about finding a partner outside yourself, but about achieving wholeness by uniting the opposite poles within you (masculine-feminine, logic-emotion).
-
Mystical Power: Undivided Energy. When you clarify your choices, your energy is no longer fragmented. It focuses on a single purpose, causing your manifestation power to increase exponentially.
II. Archetype: VII – The Chariot
The Chariot is the archetype of willpower, victory, and total control. Even though the chariot is pulled by two opposing forces (symbolized by black and white sphinxes or horses), the charioteer (you) reins them in to move toward a clear goal.
-
Life Lesson: Self-Control and Focus. This card shows that victory depends not on external conditions, but on your ability to harness your internal conflicts. Disciplined action is the only vehicle that will lead you to your destination (it is the Aries/Emperor energy in motion).
-
Mystical Power: Locking the Intent. Despite all the external noise, you lock your energy in one direction and use cosmic energy to advance rapidly in the physical world.
III. Archetype: VIII – Justice
Justice is the archetype of impartiality, truth, cause-and-effect, and karma. Her sword is raised (ready to decide), and her scales are perfectly balanced.
-
Life Lesson: Responsibility and Balance. Justice teaches that every event in your life is a result, and all your choices (The Lovers card) eventually return to you. This is the lesson of Saturn, reminding you to honestly evaluate your own actions before judging others.
-
Mystical Power: Understanding Karmic Debt. Justice allows you to see that every obstacle in your spiritual journey is the result of a past action. When building your energy shield, you can call upon the impartial energy of Justice to see the ultimate truth.
These three cards form a trilogy of individual freedom, power, and the responsibility that comes with that power.
